China's Four Famous Brocades
The four famous brocades in China are Yun Brocade, Shu Brocade, Song Brocade and Zhuang Brocade.
Yun brocade is produced in Nanjing and originated from the brocade office established in the palace in the 13th year of Yixi in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It has fine weaving, exquisite patterns and elegant style. It was a royal tribute in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
Shu Brocade is produced in Chengdu, Sichuan and originated during the Warring States Period. It is woven with dyed cooked silk threads with exquisite patterns and bright colors.
Song brocade is produced in Suzhou and originated in the late Song Dynasty. It is divided into heavy brocade, fine brocade, box brocade, small brocade, etc. It has gorgeous colors and comfortable and soft fabrics. It has been included in the national intangible cultural heritage list.
Zhuang brocade originated in the Song Dynasty and is a traditional handicraft of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It has vivid patterns, bright colors, and a strong historical and cultural flavor.
